Living within Diversity

Just for you all know, I'm the type of a person who likes to read and watch news in a spare time. It's good to read BBC and praise their coherent writing skill. But beside that, I sure have a desire to understanding the news and knowing what's going on in this universe.

But everytime I read or watch the news, you can see my wry face clearly. I bet you'll make this type of face too. Just...look at it. ISIS, Taliban troops, indigenous clan, race politics, everything, everything you see is a disunity caused by one thing: differences.

You know what's amazing in differences? You know the fact that you live in a dot flying in a colossal space yet all the colors you see are beyond plenteous. You can cross an ocean to ocean and there's no way you just bring one language to do it. You can walk around and seeing many kind of people in a street without minding ‘why is he white? Why is he black?’. You can learn a tons of culture of every continents, every countries, every states, every tribes, and all of it are different. You can express your opinion and there’s someone to listen to it. And surely you have many curiosity of things because you know this world isn’t just ‘grey’. And all those I mentioned are not even a surface of an awesomeness of differences. Races, religions, skins, tribes incoroporated as one in this earth and really, that is amazing, It is more amazing to know the fact that several races/tribes can fused in one person. I am half persian-arabian half Indonesian and this type of fusions is still common. Regardless of it, I can conclude diversity is a blessing.

But do you know what's bad in differences? People can't easily accept it. Most of us can easily get mad because things we do is not as same as everyone else. When we express our opinion and other people have a different opinion, we might be mad. That is because deep down we believe what we trust is the rightest. It is actually common for people to think like that. But unfortunately, many people cannot synchronize their thought and their emotion. Therefore, it turns out to be denial that leads to a radical deals such as cheating, slandering, and even rebelling. Sadly, this denial applied to every classes, from the lowest one that doesn’t have an enough power to affect society to the highest one that has both soft power and hard power to control (or maybe) conquer society.

Let’s do a comparison. Imagine yourself as a poor scavenger. Say, you argue with another hobo about who is richer between you two. You couldn’t really accept what he say and there comes an unsynchronized denial. What will you do? You might just punch that hobo in their face and start a fight between you two. Would it affect society? I think people will just passing by looking at you two fighting with cynical look until police come in and separate you both. Am I right?

Now, place yourself as a powerful politician. You disagree with a policy because it doesn’t give an advantage for you and your party. There comes an unsynchronized denial. What will you do? You might just slander a certain parties and speak out loud because all medias draw attention to you and you’ll just doing that until you get what you want. Would it affect society? Definitely.

When you have great power, a game of ‘who comes first; the chicken or the egg?’ can lead into a serious tension. That’s what we see nowadays. A war between a different religion, a tension between a different ideology, an arguments between a different flow of a belief, they are all arguing to equalize everything so there will be no more diversity even it means to kill each other. So basically we want to build peace by abusing what we think is wrong and what is different.

Thing you have to know here that the cause of those problems are absolutely the people, but after all this time we blame the diversity instead. Humans evolve from time to time and create all of these diversity that I find beautiful. Now humans also evolving because of the diversity they built which is also beautiful. All fight over diversity indeed happen because humans cannot maintain their emotion. It may started from a simple argument we make with our friends. We have to know that we can't force people to agree with us. So, rather than arguing and mumbling you are the rightest, why don't you try to promote your opinion instead? By promoting your opinion, you are indirectly manipulating someone to believe that what you said is right, and they will agree with you. This is era of soft power so maintain your soft power. Don't be so flared up because someone ignite a small fire.

Religion diferences, races differences, classes differences never meant to build because of negative things. We should proud  of diversity. If we just can accept differences, world may become a better place to live. Sometimes equity is what we need instead of equality. So, rather than asking for equality, why don’t we live in a beautiful diversity rightly?
